NCTC softball hosted Northeast Community College and Hutchinson Community College at home on February 20th & 21st.
In the doubleheader vs Northeast CC, the lady lions came out on top taking game one 3-0 and game two 7-2. Rylee Adams, freshman pitcher out of Van Alstyne, pitched all seven innings and recorded 4 strikeouts. Offensively, NCTC capitalized on key opportunities at the plate with Mirando Serrato, Olivia Martin and Bailey Short each adding an RBI to run up the scoreboard. Faith Ramirez sparked the offense with a triple, while Martin added a double. Kayla Matt and Ryle Adams also each recorded an additional double. The lions carried their momentum into the second game of the day with an impressive batting day for Mirando Serrato, who earned 4 RBI. Holly Mahan, Bailey Short, and Cameron Stuhr also contributed an RBI a piece for the team win. On the mound was Kadence Lampkin, who pitched 6 innings with 7 strikeouts, followed by Abriana Coy who closed out the big win.
On day two, the team took on a competitive Hutchinson Community College team, dropping game one 1-8. The team came back fighting hard in game two, but fell just short 3-4. Standout players included Rylee Adams with 2 RBI and Bailey Short with another RBI. Combined pitching efforts of Kaence Lampkin, Carly Duggins and Abriana Coy kept the lions steady as the team battled all the way through 7 innings, but ultimately falling in a nailbiter.
Coming up next for lady lion softball is a road matchup with Cowley County Community College at Murray State University on February 27th.
