NCTC Splits with Kilgore & Defeats HCC at the Winter Blast

The lady lions softball team matched up with Kilgore College on February 12th, then competed in the Denison Winter Blast Tournament the 13th and 14th.

In the double header vs Kilgore, the team dropped a close first game 6-8, then came back strong in game two, finishing with a score of 10-0. Standouts in game one included Kayla Myatt, the freshman out of Celina who put up 3 RBI, along with returning sophomore Olivia Martin out of Burleson, who added one more RBI. Combined pitching efforts of Kadence Lampkin and Abriana Coy held off the Lady Rangers, but the team just fell short in the last two innings.

The lady lions quickly responded with a strong start in the second game, leading 3-0 in the second inning, and pushing futher to 5-0 through the fourth. In a solid fifth inning, the team put up 5 more runs to secure the win. Rylee Adams, the freshman pitcher from Van Alstyne played a steady game for the lady lions, facing 20 batters with 5 strikeouts. Konoko Gadt, the freshman out of Flower Mound, also had a strong showing earning 4 RBI to run up the score board.

On day one of the Winter Blast tournament, the lady lions took on Rose State College and Murray State College,and competed hard but dropped both matches. Cameron Stuhr, a freshman outfielder from Keller, remained steady vs Rose State as she put up 3 RBI, along with Holly Mahan, a freshman catcher out of Fort Worth, who added a double.

Next up, the team travels to Paris Junior College on February 18th, followed by two doubleheaders at home with Northeast Community College on the 20th and Hutchinson Community College on the 21st.
