The NCTC baseball team defeated Vernon College at home on April 29th, and fell to the Chaps on May 2nd to finish the spring season.
In a close first game, the lions took the win 2-1 earning 2 runs through the 4th inning and holding off the Chaps through the finish. Standouts for NCTC included Dylan Robinson and Joshua Blanco who each earned an RBI. Brooks Griggs-Bell pitched 5 innings for the lions, facing 20 batters and earning 3 strikeouts. Brayden Stout finished the game, facing 5 batters and earning 2 strikeouts.
Keeping the momentum strong through game two, NCTC pulled ahead early scoring four runs in the first two innings, and then four more through the 4th. The team earned two more runs in the 5th inning to run the board up to 10, ultimately taking the game 10-2. Logan Sanchez put up big numbers for the lions with 4 RBI along with Blayne Hoelscher and Ty Besker who each added 2 RBI. Kai Reid and Colson Wood also added an RBI a piece. Combined pitching efforts from Luke Dowdy, Jax Stockton and Matthew Clark held the Chaps under 2 to secure the win.
On May 2nd, the lions traveled to Vernon to compete in their final conference doubleheader, dropping both games 2-9 and 8-13.
The lions finish the spring season with 21 wins overall, showing resilience and determination from start to finish.
