NCTC baseball took time to honor one of the most accomplished teams in program history, as members of the 2001 national championship squad returned to campus for their 25-year reunion. The team was honored ahead of the Lions' home contest against Grayson College on March 28th.
During the pregame ceremony, former players and staff from the 2001 team were recognized to celebrate their achievements. The 2001 team etched its place in NCTC history with a championship run that concluded in a victory over Dixie State College of Utah in the title game on June 1st, 2001 at the Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. Under the leadership of Kevin Darwin, the Lions finished the season with an impressive 41-14 overall record. Blake Justice, who was named the tournament's MVP, played a key role in the team's success. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Craig Stansberry, Danny Gibbons, and Wes Cain.
The event provided an opportunity to connect generations of NCTC baseball, as current players reflected on the legacy they carry forward while honoring those who helped build the program's tradition of success. NCTC baseball continues to build on that tradition, striving to uphold the standard set by the 2001 team both on and off the field.
