NCTC Defeats Dallas Christian, Kicks Off Conference Action

Lion baseball secured victory against Dallas Christian College at home on March 9th before opening conference matchups with Temple College on March 12th and 14th.

In the matchup with DCC, NCTC started off the doubleheader strong with a final score of 10-3. The lions led 5-3 through the third inning, and continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities, earning 4 more runs in the 5th, and another in the 6th. Blayne Hoelscher and Erick Martinez led the offense adding two 2 RBI each, followed by Andrew Roberts and Joshua Blanco who added additional RBI. Six lions combined for a dominant outing on the mound in the win over DCC, including Matthew Clark, Merrick Beamish, Monte Dismuke, Luke Dowdy, Nick Foster and Austin Myers, with an overall group total of 13 strikeouts.

In game two, the lions carried the momentum to dominate with a final score of 10-0. Jackson Ridge put up 3 RBI for the lions, along with Erick Martinez who earned 2 RBI with a homer. Joshua Blanco added 2 more RBI followed by Colston LeGrand IV with 1. Isaiah Casteneda, William Jackson, Jax Stockton and Riley Hoelscher delivered a strong performance from the mound combining for a total of 5 strikeouts and preventing DCC from scoring.

Starting off conference matchups, the lions faced Temple College at home on March 12th taking game one 7-0. Standouts from the opener included Joshua Blanco with a home run and 4 RBI, along with Erick Martinez who also added 2 RBI. Colson Wood earned another homer as well, adding 1 RBI to the scoreboard. Brayden Stout led the mound facing 24 batters and earning 7 strikeouts with closer Robert Moreno finishing the game with 2 more strikeouts facing 3 batters. In game two, the lions fell in a close 4-6 game.

As the season progresses, the lions continue to build and grow team rhythm throughout conference play.
